We have resolved an issue that could cause save game corruptions, and an issue that prevented some players from saving the game if their Windows username featured certain characters in anupdate released on January 30 2024.

If you are unable to save your game in Starfield, you can try the following troubleshooting to resolve your issue:

  1. Reboot your console and/or PC.

  2. If your Windowsuser profile,or any folders that need to be written to haveany special characters (Symbols, accent marks, and punctuation marks), it can cause issues with Windows functions, such as saving. Choose your windows version below for instructions on creating a new user profile.

  3. Verify and Repair/Verify Integrity of your Game Files.

  4. Disable OneDriveand/or Google Drive syncs if in use.
  5. Make sure you are an administrator on your PC. Click here to view instructions on how to set administrator permissions.
  6. Check your Antivirus and Firewall to see if it is blocking any files from being created for Starfield. For some antivirus applications, you may need to whitelist both your Save and Starfield folders.
    • Your saves are saved to this folder by default: C:\Users\user.name\Documents\My Games\Starfield
    • Starfield.execan be found at the following locations:
