Diablo 4 Skill Tree Explained
Each Class Has One Skill Tree
All playable classes in Diablo 4 have only one Skill Tree. It is essentially the identity of each class, containing their kit and Skills.

Spend Skill Points to Unlock Skills
Skill Points are used to advance further through the Skill Tree to unlock Skills and upgrades. You will not be able to get all Skills in one build since Skill Points are limited. But do not worry, because you can respec your Skills at any time, as long as you have the Gold.

Unlock Clusters to Advance Through Skill Tree
The Skill Tree is divided into seven clusters or categories of Skills, four of which are shared among all five playable classes, but contain unique Skills and upgrades for each class.
Shared Skill ClustersSkill Points to Unlock | Description |
---|---|
Basic Skills0 pts | which deal low damage. These typically do not consume Resources, and some even generate them. |
Core Skills2 pts | These are Skills that consume Resources and deal more damage than Basic Skills. |
Unique Class Skills6, 11, 16 pts | Each class features three unique clusters containing class-specific skills, letting them specialize toward specific builds and making them more distinct from other classes. |
Ultimate Skills23 pts | The strongest skills each class can learn, can be considered their signature moves. |
Key Passives33 pts | Only one passive skill can be chosen in this cluster, and it is usually build-defining. |

Types of Skill Nodes
When advancing through a cluster, you can use Skill Points on various nodes to either gain new Skills or upgrade existing ones.
Nodes | Description |
---|---|
![]() | Large, diamond-shaped nodes representing a cluster of Skills. Unlocking a cluster gives you access to new Skills and upgrades. |
![]() | Appear as square-shaped nodes and unlocks Active Skills for use in combat. These need to be manually activated in battle and can be upgraded up to five times. |
![]() | Smaller diamond-shaped nodes found behind Active Skills. These enhance the Skills they are connected to, either by changing its properties or adding new mechanics. |
![]() | Key Passives are large circle-shaped nodes and do not need to be activated. It adds various effects to a class and can even change the play style. |

EXP is gained by completing Main Quests, Side Quests, and defeating enemies. You can also gain more EXP by partying up with other players!

Gain Renown in Each Zone
Renown Milestones grant up to two Skill Points per Zone. Unlock your mount and explore the vast world of Sanctuary to gain more Renown and grow stronger!

What is the Max Skill Points Total?
58 Max Skill Points in Total
There are only 58 total skill points to obtain in Diablo 4. 48 Skill Points are granted from levels 1 to 50, and an additional 10 Skill Points are available from Renown. After level 50, you will earn Paragon Points instead, so plan your Skills ahead!
