Diablo IV is a very good video game. It features all the stuff I want out of a good Diablo game, including lots of loot, thousands of monsters to kill, more loot, big dungeons to explore, cool skills to unlock, and of course, a ton more loot. But it also feels like it’s missing something: a dedicated slot for your ultimate ability.

Released earlier this month,Diablo IV is Blizzard’s latest entry in its long-running action-RPG franchise about people killing demons and picking up lots of swords. This latest entry has reviewed very well, with players and critics alike both unable to stop themselves from sinking dozens of hours into the dark world of Diablo. (For some reason, they also all keep naming themselves variations of trash and rubbish.) Anyway, my Rogue—named Lethal Trash—really needs an ultimate slot, Blizzard.

When I recently finally leveled up my Rogue enough to pick an Ultimate ability, I assumed that it would get mapped to a specific slot. In games like Destiny or Overwatch (another game made by Blizzard) your most powerful abilities are often tied to a combination of button presses and feel different, more powerful, than your other abilities and attacks. But, as the headline gave away already, that’s not how things work in Diablo IV. Instead, ultimate abilities live among your other more basic skills and attacks, taking up a slot in the process. It’s annoying and doesn’t make sense.

You see, in Diablo IV, ultimate abilities don’t operate like other powers. You can only pick one from the ultimate ability skill tree. They tend to have longer cooldowns, but are more powerful, too. As a result, they feel special and different. Yet in the user interface, these powerful and unique abilities live in the same action bar slots as your basic attacks. It’s odd!

It also means that it feels like you are giving up a slot—which you only have six of, and can’t get more of—and I don’t like that either. I’m not alone in feeling this way! Looking online, I see other players also complaining about this strange design choice. You can even find players who pointed this out during the beta, calling it illogical or frustrating. On Reddit and Blizzard’s official forums players keep bringing up the lack of a dedicated ult slot as a complaint, wondering why it works this way and if Blizzard would ever be open to changing it.

Some fans suggest that, because builds don’t always need ultimate skills, there shouldn’t be a dedicated slot. I just don’t agree. Nobody wants one of the already-existing six slots to become a less useful ult slot. Instead, in a perfect world, Blizzard would add a new slot fully dedicated to these powerful but less-used abilities. A new theoretical seventh slot, possibly activated by clicking both sticks or hitting L1/R1 at the same time, wouldn’t ruin non-ult builds and would let everyone get to play around with ultimate skills freely without having to Sophie’s-choice-away a magic attack or dash ability.
Ultimately (get it…) Diablo IV is totally great and playable with only six slots, even if you have to burn one by equipping an ultimate ability. But I think a dedicated slot for these powerful attacks would give people just a bit more flexibility with builds, and would help make these cool abilities feel even more awesome and deadly.
At level four, you'll unlock one more skill slot, so you can then assign two different abilities to your action bar. Then, you won't unlock any more skill slots until level eight, when you'll unlock all of the remaining four, bringing your total number of skill slots to six.
There are only 58 total skill points to obtain in Diablo 4. 48 Skill Points are granted from levels 1 to 50, and an additional 10 Skill Points are available from Renown. After level 50, you will earn Paragon Points instead, so plan your Skills ahead!
You get one skill point each time you level up, starting from level 2. This continues all the way to level 49. You can also unlock 10 additional skill points through the Renown system. This leaves you with 58 skill points to spend on a max level character with fully unlocked Renown.
How many Skill Points can you earn in Diablo 4? You can earn a maximum of 58 Skill Points in Diablo 4. You'll earn 48 Skill Points as you climb from Level 1 to 50, but you can earn 10 additional Skill Points by increasing your Renown to tier 1 and tier 3 in each of the five regions.
Press A on your PC keyboard or the designated button on your console to open the Skill Assignment menu. From here, all you need to do is click and drag the skill of your choice into your desired position on the skill hotbar.
What is the Diablo 4 max level? The Diablo 4 max level is 100 and it takes around 150 hours to reach that level. According to Blizzard, it will take players approximately 35 hours of gameplay to complete the game's massive campaign, and players can expect to finish the campaign at about level 45.
Once you hit level 100, all Sacred and Ancestral items will only drop at level 100, which is a bit of a problem if you want to move those items onto other characters, since you'd have to level that character all the way to 100 before being able to equip them.
This class is known for having the highest amount of health and strength in the game, and this hasn't changed in Diablo 4. Similarly to the previous games, Barbarians build Fury with each attack, giving them the ability to unleash a powerful Fury skill during combat.
Unlocking any skill, including the Ultimate one, depends entirely on how fast you can level up in the game. You'll need skill points that are rewarded as your character grows stronger in Diablo 4. Every time you level up, you'll get one skill point. This goes on till your chosen class reaches level 50.
At any given time, you will only have four active skills on your hot bar, including your characters' primary and secondary attacks. If you want to bring another skill, you will have to replace one skill with the one you intend to use. To activate these skills, you will have to press a specific button.
When you have at least one rank of your desired enchantment, Simply open your skills by pressing 'S', and dragging a skill to an enchantment slot. A skill can simultaneously be placed in both a skill slot and an enchantment slot.
Each node contains active and passive skills, represented as a square and a circle, respectively. To unlock both types of skills, you must spend at least one skill point on them. After that, you can spend more points in order to increase their ranks, making them more powerful.
Each of these incredibly rare items increase the player's Memory Slot count by one, up to a maximum of 10. This means that if you were to find nine Memory Stones throughout the Lands Between, you'd be able to cast up to 10 different incantations or sorceries in combat.
