Amoeba Music - Store Locations, Hours and General Information (2024)

Since opening our doors in Hollywood in 2001, Amoeba has been a dynamic part of L.A.’s musical community, with thousands of music lovers from all walks of life passing through our doors every day. Our fun and experienced staff is an all-star team of veterans from music and movie stores all over the country. We have experts in every field and collectively, the musical knowledge we represent is encyclopedic and unparalleled. Our mission is to help you find what you need and to make you feel at home. We are musicians, artists, DJs, and writers and we love to have a good time, which is what we want your shopping experience to be!

Amoeba Music opened its first Hollywood location in November 2001, occupying an entire city block on Sunset Blvd in the heart of the city. We announced our new location at 6200 Hollywood Blvd in February 2020, just before the Covid-19 pandemic shutdown. Although the massive impact from the pandemic delayed our reopening until April 2021, reopen we did, and we brought that familiar Amoeba energy with us!

Located in the El Centro complex, our new spot is on the corner of Hollywood and Argyle, a highly visible and easily accessible destination. Our new space features validated parking (75 minutes with purchase) in the El Centro parking structure and is very convenient to public transportation with the Hollywood & Vine Metro rail stop across the street and the #217 bus stop one block West.

The building may be new, but Amoeba's personality shines through with visual flourishes like the color vinyl LP installation welcoming customers at the front door, the original Shepard Fairey mural created for the Amoeba stage, collage art in the book section and more. The massive floor space is highlighted by rainbow-colored columns guides you to different sections -- the huge vinyl, CD and DVD/Blu-ray sections; books and posters (on the mezzanine level); a large, curated t-shirt section featuring music, film, TV & pop culture tees; turntables and vinyl accessories; collectibles; enamel pins, patches, stickers & more.

We're also a critically acclaimed music venue, with a long history of hosting live bands, artist signings, DJs, parades, charity events, and release parties. We've had free live performances and signings with our favorite artists over the years – including Stevie Nicks, Ozzy Osbourne, Mon Laferte, The Flaming Lips, Elvis Costello, Robyn, Black Flag, Lana Del Rey, Ben Harper, Los Lobos, Blackalicious, Todd Rundgren, Jurassic 5, The Roots, Terence Blanchard, P.J. Harvey, Nancy Sinatra, The Melvins, Blind Boys of Alabama, Paul Westerberg, Lucinda Williams, Pat Benatar, Poncho Sanchez, Solomon Burke, Belle & Sebastian, Queens of the Stone Age, Supergrass, The Raconteurs, DJ Dangermouse and SO many more...

One of our most memorable and talked-about in-store concerts happened on June 27, 2007 when Sir Paul McCartney played for over an hour on the Amoeba stage to a spellbound audience of 1,000 fans packed in the store. The legendary Beatle’s energetic performance featured hits from across his career, such as “Drive My Car,” “Back In The U.S.S.R.,” “Hey Jude,” and “Here Today.” It was a truly unforgettable event!

Together, the staff, shoppers, and performing artists who walk through our doors every day comprise a unique musical community and an incubator for positive energy. Like the tiny amoeba, the single-celled source of life, we are independent, but we absorb all influences and grow and change. We can’t wait for you to be a part of our community!

If you can’t make it to Amoeba Hollywood, don’t forget that Amoeba.com is open for online shopping 24/7 and music & movies ship free to the US.
