Ever since its debut back in the early 2000s, Nintendo's Animal Crossing has become one of the company's most important franchises, having captured the affection of gamers from all walks of life. When Nintendo released Animal Crossing: New Horizons last March,it quickly became a commercial success and most recently, became the fastest-selling Switch game of all time.
Of course, apart from Animal Crossing's charming graphics and relaxed gameplay, much of the game's appeal comes from the wide cast of adorable villagers that the player interacts with on a day-to-day basis. As of the moment, the smug villager Raymond holds the title as the most popular character in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. However, veteran players of the franchise would know that Raymond's rose to stardom is fairly new, given that he was only introduced to the series in 2017's Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp.

Before Raymond's arrival, another cat villager was dubbed as the franchise's superstar, and that character is no other than Ankha. To those unfamiliar, Ankha is a snooty cat villager, who appeared in every single Animal Crossing game apart from the Japanese-exclusive Animal Forest and theNintendo DS' Animal Crossing: Wild World. But why is Ankha so popular? Of course, each player would have their own reasons for liking Ankha, but here is a general breakdown as to why she remains a popular figure in Animal Crossing.

As previously mentioned, Ankha is a veteran to the series appearing in most Animal Crossing games. Given her long association with the franchise, several longtime players of the popular social simulation video game became attached to Ankha, despite her having a snooty personality.Of course, given her appearances in countless Animal Crossing games, Ankha became a familiar face, which led to many players on a quest to have her live in their islands in Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Of course, one big factor that contributes to Ankha's popularity is her unique look and character design. Her overall look is heavily influenced by Egyptian themes, making her look like the famous Egyptian ruler, Cleopatra. Interestingly enough, her snooty personality works well with her character design,especially since her superiority complex perfectly matches her Cleopatra look.
Apart from her character design, Ankha's interior design taste also reflects her preference for ancient Egyptian aesthetic. Her house in Animal Crossing: New Horizons has a yellow exterior with a purple door. Her interior collection includes a single pyramid, three golden caskets, a golden toilet, golden dishes, gold bars, and a libra scale.
She's a Cat
Lastly, just like in the real world, it appears that cats are the most preferred villagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. This is reflected in how Ankha and Raymond are the two mostsought-aftervillagers in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and apart from them, other cat characters are also on top of most players' wishlists.
All in all, despite Raymond taking the top spot as the most popular villager in Animal Crossing: New Horizons,Ankha is not that far off from and continues to remain popular among veteran Animal Crossing players. Of course,Raymond and Ankha's current standing is not permanent, given that players are getting to know more villagers, including those who are not so popular, as they play more of Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
