Ankha is a cat veiled in mystery... She may look young, but some have said she might actually be 3,000 years old! If that's true, she's holding up really well.

— Ankha's description, Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp

Ankha is a snooty cat villager in the Animal Crossing series. She is thought to be an allusion to ancient Egyptian worship of cats, including feline goddesses such as Bastet. Ankha's name is based on the ankh, a hieroglyph 𓋹 Ꜥnḫ "life", which has became a general symbol ☥ representing life, the African diaspora, and the goth subculture.

Since her debut, Ankha has become extremely popular in the Animal Crossing fandom.

Physical appearance[]

Ankha is a gold cat with navy blue stripes. Her eyes look upwards. She wears a constant scowl, even when she is happy.

Ankha wears navy eyeliner stylized after Egyptian royalty, with wings from the bottom corners, and orange eyeshadow that is seen when she blinks.

Ankha wears a nemes with a Uraeus, both striped in her color scheme. Some fans have claimed a specific relation to the headgear of Cleopatra, the Hellenistic queen of Egypt. In Animal Crossing: City Folk only, Ankha lacked the Uraeus and wore a scarab head pendant in its place, perhaps to reduce the 3D model complexity.

In several pieces of official artwork, Ankha is depicted in a pose with her arms raised and head tilted up. On her amiibo card, she is instead posed like a sarcophagus.

History[]

Ankha is repeatedly speculated to be 3,000 years old, as "she claims she was a cat in Cleopatra's court". Her Animal Crossing e-Reader card quips, "How many years do nine lives make?"

Animal Crossing: New Leaf states that Ankha is the eldest of ten children.

Personality[]

Ankha is a snooty villager, often coming off as arrogant and snobbish towards the player and other villagers. She has her nice moments if her lifestyle is not insulted. She finds appearance important and will get angry about criticism towards it. She will gradually warm up to the player over time. She does not like lazy villagers and upsets peppy villagers by gossiping about them. She gets along well with cranky, normal, and snooty villagers.

Her catchphrase relates to her snooty personality, which is an arrogant combination of "me" and "meow". Her Japanese catchphrase, クフフ kufufu, is a combination of the pharaoh Khufu and ウフフ ufufu, a Japanese onomatopoeia for laughter.

Ankha's favorite saying, "All that glitters is not gold", suggests that she is somewhat pessimistic or guarded.

As of Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Ankha aspires to be an astronaut. She is afraid of the monster mask, which is based on Frankenstein's monster.

In Happy Home Designer, Ankha's thought bubble reveals that she "really adore[s] mummies". She dresses as one herself in several games.
