Why does BB mean walk? ›

Definition. A walk (or base on balls) occurs when a pitcher throws four pitches out of the strike zone, none of which are swung at by the hitter. After refraining from swinging at four pitches out of the zone, the batter is awarded first base. In the scorebook, a walk is denoted by the letters BB.

The first reference to walk-off came in a July 30, 1988, story in the Gannett News Service: "In Dennis Eckersley's colorful vocabulary, a walk-off piece is a home run that wins the game and the pitcher walks off the mound."

Walk-offs can occur any way the home team can score a run. It can come via a hit, an error, a walk or a hit by pitch with the bases loaded, a sacrifice fly, a wild pitch, a passed ball, or even with a balk (yes, a walk-off balk).

Walk Rate (BB%)

Walk rate represents the frequency with which a pitcher walks hitters, as determined by total walks divided by total batters faced. It's an important tool for assessing a pitcher's capabilities and perhaps the most important in judging a pitcher's tendency to walk batters.

It's occasionally used as an acronym for basketball and bye-bye. More commonly, however, bb is short for baby as an affectionate term used of lovers, partners, friends, and even pets. Fans on social media may even gush over their idols by referring to them as bb.

In a romantic relationship or dating context, "BB" is often used as an affectionate term or nickname. It's short for "baby" or "babe." People use it as a way to express endearment, affection, or familiarity with their partner.

A run batted in or runs batted in (RBI) is a statistic in baseball and softball that credits a batter for making a play that allows a run to be scored (except in certain situations such as when an error is made on the play).

The actual definition of the term as per the MLB's official glossary is “A 'walk-off' is any offensive play that gives the home team the lead - and thus, the win - in the bottom of the last inning.” This reflects the modern usage of the term, which awards the status of “walk-off” to the batting team.

Definition. A balk occurs when a pitcher makes an illegal motion on the mound that the umpire deems to be deceitful to the runner(s). As a result, any men on base are awarded the next base, and the pitch (if it was thrown in the first place) is waved off for a dead ball.

Baserunners advance only if the walk forces them to the next base. Initially, it may seem that baserunners cannot attempt a steal because there is no action on the ball during a walk. However, since the ball remains live after a walk, baserunners can attempt to steal a base.

Does a walk hurt a no hitter? ›

Unlike a perfect game, in which no batters reach base, in regular no-hitters batters can reach base in other ways, such as a walk, an error, or a hit batsman, thus it is possible for the team pitching the no-hitter to lose.

In baseball, the strike zone is the volume of space through which a pitch must pass in order to be called a strike even if the batter does not swing. The strike zone is defined as the volume of space above home plate and between the batter's knees and the midpoint of their torso.

In the scorebook, a walk is denoted by the letters 'BB,' which stands for base on balls. An intentional walk is denoted by the letters 'IBB.

Definition. Batters faced is simply a count of the number of total plate appearances against a certain pitcher or team. In a perfect game -- with 27 outs -- a pitcher will record 27 batters faced. Batters faced can often be used as a reference for in-game strategy.

There are four types of hits in baseball: singles, doubles, triples and home runs. All four are counted equally when deciphering batting average. If a player is thrown out attempting to take an extra base (e.g., turning a single into a double), that still counts as a hit. Hits come in all varieties.

# = sharp, this is what you have when you raise a note by a semitone, i.e. F# [F sharp] is one semitone higher than F. b = flat, this is what you have when you lower a note by a semitone, i.e. Bb [B flat] is one semitone lower than B. And the notes repeat themselves several times, at different pitches.

BB Means Baby

This abbreviation is a shorthand way of showing your affection to your partner. You can also use BB as a platonic but affectionate nickname for a friend, especially if you have a strong and established friendship.
