Timothy Johnson will officiate. The wake service will be held p.m. Friday at New Zion AME Church, Wisacky, where the Rev. Franklin Spears is the pastor. Born February 7, 1923, in Lee County, he was a son of the late Janie and Warren Slater.
He was educated in the Bishopville public schools. He attended Allen University and Dickerson Theological Seminary and was awarded the bachelor of arts degree and bachelor of divinity degrees, respectively. He received a master's degree in Education from South Carolina State University. He served as a principal in the Lee County public schools for 33 years, where he consistently provided phenomenal educational experiences for many young people. The late Presiding Elder R.L.
Pope licensed him to preach at his home church, New Zion (Wisacky) in 1945. For 47 years, he proudly served from the smallest to the largest churches in the AME denomination, providing excellent leadership in every area of service. His pastorates included: Quinn Chapel AME Church (Sumter); Paradise AME (Spartanburg); St. Paul AME Church (Sumter); Mt. Olive AME Church (Woodrow).
His numerous affiliations included: Lee County Education Association, South Carolina Education Association, National Education Association, South Carolina Association of Elementary School Principals, Lee County Cooperative Ministries, Council on Aging, Santee-Lynches Board, Northeast Conference Sunday School Superintendent, Liberty Hill Lodge, F.A. Mason, Lee County NAACP, Lee County Chapter of the General Alumni Association of Allen University. Rev. Slater loved his family as Christ loved the church. He leaves to mourn his passing and celebrate his life: daughters, Joyce Slater Fortune (McDowell) and Garcia Slater-Byrd (Scott), both of Columbia; sons, Rev.

Dr. Weiss passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2003 following a prolonged illness. Born in South Bend, in 1920, his career as a Speech Pathologist spanned several decades both in Columbia and in Spartanburg County. He was the first director of the Spartanburg Speech and Hearing Clinic; spearheaded a testing program for these disorders in grade school students; was instrumental in the development of the Charles Lea Center which became the nation's model for training and rehab for handicapped children. He served as its director for five years.

Catherine McFadden COLUMBIA Catherine Keenan "Cappy" McFadden, 74, died October 14, 2003. Mirs.
McFadden was born July 9, 1929, to Lloyd Dean and Catherine Gould Lawrence in Jacksonville, Fla. She graduated from the University of South Carolina with a BA degree in English in 1949. She was always interested and active in local affairs. She was very instrumental in the organization and fund raising of the Waccamaw Library at Pawleys Island. She was a member of the League of Women Voters, Pawleys Island Democratic Party, The Palmetto Project, Sierra Club and a member of the Holy Cross Faith Memorial Episcopal Church.
Cappy was married to the late Andrew M. Keenan who predeceased her in 1969. In 1973 she married Samuel E. McFadden to whom she devoted her life. He predeceased her in 2002.
The family wishes to express their deepest thanks and gratitude to the Staff at Atria Forest Lake and Still Hopes for their wonderful care and concern for Cappy. Donald Rowell MARION Donald Rowell, 82, formerly of Charlotte, N.C., died Thursday, October 16, 2003, in Marion County Medical Center.
He was born September 23, 1921, in Marion, a son of the late Willie Henry and Sallie Boyd Rowell. He was predeceased by his first wife, Becky Helms Rowell and a daughter, Dawn Monroe, his brothers, JD, Travis, Ralph, his sisters, Thelma, Annie Mae and Raye. Mr. Rowell owned and operated Rowell's Hair Care in Charlotte for 54 years. He was a member of Marion Baptist Church and former member of Eastern Hills Baptist Church in Charlotte.
He was an Army veteran of World War II. He is survived by his wife, Doretha Floyd Rowell of Marion; a daughter, Kaye Kilough and husband, Russell, of Fort Mills; son-in-law, Rev. Bill Monroe of Southern Pines, N.C.; stepdaughter, Debra Neely and husband, Jim, of Marion; stepson, Michael Foxworth of Myrtle Beach; two sisters, Mrs. Beulah R. Foxworth of Marion and his twin, Mrs.
Dorothy R. McMillan of Mullins; two grandchildren, Donnie Monroe and Shawn Klouse; two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 18, 2003, at Marion Baptist Church with the Rev. Daniel Inabinet and the Rev.

During his career, Weiss was a lifelong member of the American Association of Mental Retardation and the American Speech Language Hearing Association.
He is credited with a number of publications, articles, papers and studies which have appeared in research journals. Additionally his film, "Parental Perspectives," has been viewed on television and in schools within the United States and abroad. From 1976 until the present date, Dr. Weiss was honored with awards and appointments by 5 South Carolina Governors, and was the recipient of the coveted Order of Palmetto in 1990. Dr.
Weiss is survived by his wife, Aileen; children, Guy and Sindy Marvin of Atlanta, Vicki Weiss of Columbia, and Anne Weiss of Charleston; two sisters, Lillian Roland of South Bend, and Lee Leeds of Encino, Calif. Wanda Wells LEXINGTON Wanda L. Moore Wells, 59, born in Covington, passed away Oct. 12, 2003, in Lexington Medical Center of cancer. She was a member of Laurel Baptist Church.
