You can now preload Starfield on Xbox Series X|S and PC, too, if you've pre-ordered the game digitally or are planning to download it via Xbox Game Pass. By doing this, you'll be able to dive into the game the moment it launches, barring any day one patch shenanigans, of course. Steam users will have to wait a bit longer, however, with preloads going live on August 30 for Valve's digital distribution platform.
Going gold also means that development on Starfield has officially wrapped, and it'll be shipping to disc as we speak. This isn't out of the ordinary in any way for AAA releases, especially considering Starfield's September 6 release date is mere weeks away. But, it's reassuring to see that by going gold, the already-delayed title shouldn't be subject to any more roadblocks.

The Starfield Direct back in June was the last major look we got for the upcoming game. But it was a robust look at that. Bethesda revealed details on character creation, builds, perks, shipbuilding, companions, and much more. The presentation gave us a sneak peek at the Starfield Constellation Edition, which includes a fancy smartwatch, and also confirmed the return of Oblivion's most annoying NPC.
Those of you hungry for more details ahead of launch will want to look towards Gamescom. Microsoft will be in attendance at the Cologne-based event, showcasing new footage for Starfield, and Forza Motorsport. Sadly, though, neither game will be publicly playable at the event.
Along with the "gone gold" message, Bethesda also confirmed today that Starfield will be preloadable: Preloads for Xbox consoles and the PC version on the Microsoft Store will begin on August 17, while Steam preloading will begin on August 30.
When can I preload Starfield? Preloading Starfield is available on Xbox Series X and PC via the Microsoft Store and Steam right now! You can begin the pre-install if you've got Xbox or PC Game Pass, or if you've pre-ordered one of the game's special editions that grants you access to the early access period.
The reality was more diluted as a number of hardcore players were turned off by lighter RPG systems, a voiced protagonist, and writing that just wasn't as witty or pointed in its satire as its predecessors.
Why are they capping Starfield at 30fps? Starfield is capped at 30fps on Xbox Series X/S to retain the highest graphics and resolution and allow players to do everything they'd expect in a Bethesda title in as smooth a way as possible.
Starfield takes place in a space-themed setting, and is the first new intellectual property developed by Bethesda in 25 years. It was described by director Todd Howard as "Skyrim in space".
In an interview with The New York Times published alongside the release of Starfield, Ashley Cheng, Bethesda's managing director, said the developers made sure there was enough to do in the game without jam-packing all 1,000 planets with content.
Earth in Starfield is not a very resource-rich planet, nor is it filled with much to do or find. However, there are still a few remnants of the old world to be explored.
Like many major RPGs, Starfield lets you fall in love with companions as you travel. Romance in Starfield serves many purposes beyond just roleplay, though: you'll get frequent gifts, unlock exciting new quests, and even net a large XP bonus that'll help you level up faster.
Gold is a valuable resource in Starfield, and it's not always easy to find. It's used in crafting, which can save you valuable credits when building components for outposts and more. Crafting can quickly deplete your stores of resources, making it vital to collect more.
It definitely drew inspiration from No Man's Sky, but to call it a "ripoff" is downright ludicrous considering just how much of the content featured in Starfield diverges from No Man's Sky.
According to the developers of No Man's Sky, the game's open-world universe features an astounding 18 quintillion planets, which significantly surpasses the number of star systems in Starfield. While Starfield incorporates procedural generation, its map size is not as expansive as that of No Man's Sky.
Starfield, on the other hand, is revealed to only have two major factions that you will need to contend with. In this aspect, Starfield is closer to Skyrim in terms of how the political environment is handled in the game. In terms of map size, Starfield is roughly 20 percent larger than Fallout 4.
How do you get Starfield Early Access? To get Early Access to Starfield, you had to purchase the Premium Edition (physical or digital) or the Constellation edition (a physical-only collectors box). The former is $100 and comes with one story expansion, a skin pack, and digital copies of the artbook and soundtrack.
If you bought the $100 version of Starfield, Bethesda's new RPG is now playable on Steam, Xbox, and the Microsoft Store. Bethesda announced Starfield five years ago at E3 2018, but Bethesda Game Studios started working on it well before that.
There are a total of three different versions of Starfield to pre-order coming on September 6 for both Xbox Series X and PC. The long-awaited upcoming game is also coming on day one to Xbox Game Pass, however, you may be missing out on some extra content by taking that route for the standard edition of the title.
