Planet Zoo 2 (2024)

Planet Zoo 2 is an upcoming business simulation construction and management game developed and published by Frontier Developments.

The game is a spiritual successor to Zoo Tycoon 2, with gameplay similar to the games, Planet Coaster and Jurassic World Evolution (1 and 2).

As with Planet Coaster and Jurassic World Evolution (1 and 2), critics praised Planet Zoo 2's creation tools along with its realistic animal portrayals and emphasis on wildlife conservation. However, the game was also criticized for the complexity of its management and building mechanics, which were deemed to be overly challenging for some players. Planet Zoo 2 continues to receive regular post-launch updates and downloadable content. It was a commercial success, selling more than a million copies in 1 more year.

A sequel to Planet Zoo (2019) and set during Korrina's Animal Action (the franchise), the game is set to be released for Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Steam, Xbox One and Xbox Series X and Series S on November 5, 2022.

Similar to the first game, Planet Zoo 2 is a business simulation in which the player constructs a Planet Zoo animal theme park. The game features more than 75 species, including various habitat animals, exhibit animals, birds, and marine animals. Players need to build fences, enclosures, aviaries, aquariums, oceanariums, dolphinariums, wildlife parks, safari parks, marine mammal parks, and lagoons (from Jurassic World Evolution 2) to contain these animals for visitors' viewing.

These species have different needs, like the type of food they eat and the extent of forestation they require in their habitat, must be met to keep them healthy and satisfied. The game features a dynamic territory system which sees animals combating against each other for resources if they live in the same habitat. Their territories are constantly shifting depending on the resources available in their habitat.

When compared with its predecessors, the game features a more complex artificial intelligence for the species, which will now hunt in packs and interact with other more frequently and realistically. The terrain tool has been completely reworked, and players need to give food for the carnivores, the omnivores and the herbivores to eat.

The New Animal Market like the 2019 (Planet Zoo Animal Market) lets players buy animals from other players for their zoo. Players can trade habitat animals, aviary birds, and marine animals, but exhibit animals will be traded to exhibit or habitat.

Like the first game, Planet Zoo 2 is set in North America, South America, Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia, and the Polar Regions and features various biomes and places such as jungles, forests, lakes, beaches, oceans, coral reefs, islands, taigas, tundras, canyons, mountains, deserts, outbacks, watering holes, savannahs, Tiger Church Service, Simba's Church, George's Animal Den, and George's Animal Sanctuary with each providing unique challenges for the player while they are designing their parks.

The maps featured in the game are significantly larger than those in the first game.

The game features various modes, including a campaign mode which is set during Korrina's Animal Action and Sauvage (the 2021 franchise), a "Chaos Theory" mode which revisits key narrative moments in the films, and the returning Challenge mode, Career Mode, Franchise Mode, and Sandbox Mode.
