New Parx Paddock Dresscode – Pennsylvania Thoroughbred Horsem*n's Association (PTHA) (2024)

New Parx Paddock Dresscode

Parx announced today a new dress code, in addition to masks. All personnel entering the paddock, including Owners, Trainers, Grooms, etc., must have long pants and collared shirts without exception. The rule was added partially in response to shorts and tank tops being worn in the hot weather.

Requirements to run horses during a COVID-19 pandemic remain challenging, but the PTHA Executive Director Michael Ballezzi is working hard to smooth out the lumps. For the first two days of racing at Parx, alongside the joys of winning races and satisfaction of seeing our horses finally run, we have scrambled to find masks, get through the gates and even find refreshment on the long path from the paddock. Starting Wednesday, the PTHA will be supplying water bottles outside the paddock for thirsty Grooms and Trainers. Maintenance Supervisor Gerard Weipert makes sure hoses are always hung for the horses over the rail between the Paddock and the Winner’s Circle and also Mid-stretch. Ice buckets were added to the paddock for cooling horses after the race as well.
