Nax, a veteran of the Clone Wars, was a human male clone of Jango Fett who once served as a clone trooper in the elite 501st Legion of the Galactic Republic's Grand Army of the Republic. By 9 BBY, he had come to reside on the streets of the planet Daiyu after being rotated out of military service due to the Galactic Empire's Project War-Mantle, and he once begged the rogue Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi for credits in order to pay for a meal.

Biography[]

In approximately 29 BBY,[2] a human male clone of Jango Fett was born on the planet Kamino[1] and participated in the Clone Wars[3]—against the Confederacy of Independent Systems[6]—as a clone trooper[3] in the elite[7] 501st Legion of the Galactic Republic's Grand Army of the Republic.[5] Eventually going by the name "Nax," he served in the battles of Teth, Christophsis, and Umbara, among many other battles. After sustaining extensive injuries that left him with shrapnel in his right leg, he was removed from the frontlines.[8] After the Galactic Empire rose to power in 19 BBY, it initiated Project War-Mantle to bolster and eventually fully supplant the clone troopers with volunteering[9] and conscripted soldiers. As a result of his accelerated aging, the clone trooper was eventually considered unfit for military service which left him destitute and abandoned.[4]

By 9 BBY,[2] Nax resided, homeless, on the planet Daiyu.[3] While on the planet, the veteran's age acceleration and past experiences had left him worse for wear, and he was forgotten by others, forcing him to beg for credits to survive.[4] In that year,[2] the clone begged Jedi Master–in-hiding Obi-Wan Kenobi—who was searching for the kidnapped princess of Alderaan, Leia Organa—for credits in order to pay for a meal. Kenobi obliged, throwing some credits into the clone's helmet while hiding his lightsaber from view with his robe. The clone nodded to Kenobi in appreciation, who then walked away after solemnly staring at Nax for a brief moment.[3]

Personality and traits[]

Around 9 BBY,[2] Nax had tan skin; long, shaggy, black hair; and a disheveled, graying beard and mustache.[3] As a clone trooper, he stood 1.83 meters tall[1] and had brown eyes.[3]

Equipment[]

Nax (5)

While living in a homeless condition on Daiyu, Nax wore dirty Phase II clone trooper armor adorned with the blue markings of the 501st Legion and was in possession of an accompanying helmet, which he used as a bucket to collect credits. His arms were bandaged, and he wore a green poncho. Although he still wore the boots that came with his armor, he did not wear the leg and waist components, instead wearing a pair of brown pants.[3] His leg still held shrapnel from injuries sustained in battle.[8]

Behind the scenes[]

"Was that your first time in physical clone trooper armor?"
"Yes, yes it was actually. I thought that was the best thing in the whole show, that little cameo. It wasn't quite long enough for me, but there were howls of excitement, so I really enjoyed that."

The clone veteran appeared in "Part II" of the limited series Obi-Wan Kenobi, directed by Deborah Chow[3] and released on May 26, 2022.[11] Like other live-action clone troopers in the prequel trilogy films Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones[6] and Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith,[12] he was portrayed by Temuera Morrison.[3] He was first identified as "Nax" in a Star Wars San Diego Comic-Con 2023 panel revealing information from the Star Wars: Dawn of Rebellion: The Visual Guide reference book, which was released in 2023.[13] Nax originated in the Star Wars Legends continuity when he first appeared in the 2008 novelization of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars film by Karen Traviss.[14]

Morrison enjoyed his cameo and stated that it was the best thing in the series, but he felt that it was too short. He liked that the veteran had hair and a beard growing out, and it was the first time that Morrison wore physical clone trooper armor while portraying a clone,[10] as in previous portrayals the armor was rendered using CGI.[5]
