This report has been updated to reflect a Middletown event location change and an additional Newburgh event.

Across the mid-Hudson Valley, a host of events will honor fallen service members this weekend.

Residents in the Middletown area will mark the official observance of Memorial Day with local parades and ceremonies.

Here's a list of some of the planned Memorial Day events in the area. If you know of an event that is not listed, send an email news@th-record.com.

Ahead of the Monday holiday, the Town of Newburgh and the Village of Monroe will host Memorial Day parades on Sunday, at 1 p.m. and 1:30 p.m., respectively.

The Town of Newburgh parade will be preceded by a ceremony at Town Hall, 1496 Route 300 at 10:30 a.m. The parade will step off at 1 p.m. from the American Legion Hall, 1420 Union Avenue and proceed south on Union Avenue, east on Route 52 and north on Powder Mill Road, where it will end by Algonquin Park and Cronomer Park.

Formation of the Monroe parade will begin at Smith's Clove Park at 12:15 p.m. The parade will step off at 1:30 p.m. and proceed along Spring Street, turn left on Mapes Place, continue under the Erie overpass and stop at the Monroe Volunteer Ambulance Corps Memorial.

The parade will then turn onto Carpenter Place, and continue to downtown Lake Street and Route 17M to Veterans Memorial Park for the placement of wreaths. The parade will then continue to the Monroe Cemetery, where more wreaths will be placed and dedications will be made by veterans groups and public officials.

Memorial Day events near Middletown on Monday, May 27

Barryville: 9:15 a.m. Sylvan Liebla American Legion Post 1363 will conduct a memorial service at the Barryville Cemetery on Mail Road.

Bethel: 11 a.m. The Sgt. Andrew Brucher-Bailey-Richman VFW Post 5499 will host a small service commemorating Memorial Day in Veterans Park across the street from the Kauneonga Lake Fire House. Guest speaker is Sullivan County Court Judge James Farrell.

Bloomingburg: 11 a.m. Memorial Day service at the Bloomingburg Cemetery.

Town of Cornwall/Village of Cornwall-on-Hudson: 10 a.m. Memorial Day parade begins at Payson Road in the village and proceeds west on Hudson Street and Main Street. Followed by a service at the monument across from Town Hall.

Eldred: 8:45 a.m. Sylvan Liebla America Legion Post 1363 will conduct a memorial service at the Eldred Cemetery. At 1 p.m., The Tusten-Highlands-Lumberland VFW Post 6427 and the Sylvan Liebla American Legion Post 1363 will hold joint Memorial Day services at Heroes Park, at the corner of Route 55 and Proctor Road.

Fremont Center: 9:30 a.m. Allan Milk Memorial VFW Post 7276 and H. Russell Kenyon VFW Post will have their 140th annual memorial service at Veterans Park. Followed by a parade down county Route 94 at 10 a.m. and a flag-folding ceremony at Fremont Town Hall Veterans Monument.

Village of Goshen: 11 a.m. Memorial Day parade. Marchers will begin lining up on Erie Street at 10 a.m. Following the parade, there will be a memorial ceremony at noon at the Everett Memorial in Church Park.

Grahamsville: 11 a.m. Town of Neversink Flag Exchange Ceremony at the flag pole in the Grahamsville Rural Cemetery, Route 55.

City of Kingston: 1 p.m. Ceremony at Veterans Park in front of City Hall. At 1:45 p.m., the Memorial Day parade will step off from Andrew Street and proceed along Broadway to uptown Kingston.

Village of Liberty: 10:30 a.m. Parade from Main Street to Liberty Veterans Cemetery.

Liberty: 1 p.m. The Sullivan County Veterans Service Agency will hold a Memorial Day service and wreath-laying ceremony at the Sullivan County Veterans Cemetery, 181 Sunset Lake Road.

Livingston Manor: 10 a.m. Parade down Main Street, concluding at the old VFW property on Rock Avenue. Ceremony to follow.

Town of Lloyd: 9 a.m. Memorial Day parade steps off from Phillips Avenue, goes down New Paltz Road through the village, up Milton Avenue to Van Wagner Road, then down Vineyard Avenue and back to the village. Followed by an awards presentation and speakers on the lawn of the Methodist Church at 10:15 a.m. and concluding with a military salute and Taps.

Long Eddy: 1 p.m. The Allan Milk Memorial VFW Post 7276 will hold a memorial service at the Long Eddy Cemetery.

Lumberland: 10 a.m. Memorial Day commemoration at Town Hall.

Mamakating: 9 a.m. The Edward M. Maier Memorial VFW Post 4947 will hold a dedication and service at the Summitville Fire House and Monument.

Maybrook: 9 a.m. Parade and service at Veterans Memorial Park.

City of Middletown: 11 a.m. Memorial Day ceremony at the Middletown Elks Lodge, 48 Prospect St.

Village of Montgomery: Parade at 11 a.m. Marchers will line up at 10:30 a.m. at the corner of Clinton Street and Wallkill Avenue.

Monticello: 10 a.m. The Sullivan County Jewish War Veterans will hold a memorial service at the Sullivan County Government Center, 100 North St.

City of Newburgh: Parade at 10 a.m. Marchers will line up on Richman Avenue at 9:15 a.m. At 10 a.m. they will proceed south on West Street, east on Broadway and south on Liberty Street to Washington's Headquarters, where services will take place after the parade. At 3 p.m. at the Orange County Veterans Memorial at the intersection of Liberty Street and Leroy Place, the names of all the county's deceased veterans since World War I will be read. Family members who would like to read the names of their veterans are welcome to do so.

Olive: 9:30 a.m. Memorial Day parade marchers will assemble in front of the West Shokan Post Office at 9 a.m. Parade will step off at 9:30 a.m., proceed to Watson Hollow Road and end at the pavilion by Town Hall, where a brief ceremony will follow.

Pine Bush: 9 a.m. Memorial Day parade steps off at Crispell Middle School and will travel down Main Street, ending at the Crawford Town Park for the ceremony.

City of Port Jervis: 9:30 a.m. Memorial Day parade marchers will begin lining up at East Main Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. Parade steps off at 10:30 a.m. and will be followed by a ceremony at 11 a.m. in Orange Square Park.

Roscoe: 10 a.m. The Floyd Keener American Legion Post 315 will have a Memorial Day parade, followed by a ceremony at 11 a.m. in front of the Roscoe-Rockland Firehouse.

Tuxedo: Parade at 11:30 a.m. Tuxedo Park Library 19th annual Memorial Day Community Picnic and Fundraiser at noon.

Village of Washingtonville: 10 am. Parade steps off at Washingtonville High School, proceeds along Route 94, Arrowpoint Lane and Ahern Boulevard, ending at Memorial Park.

Wawayanda: 10 a.m. Annual Memorial Day ceremony, Shannen Park, 1906 Route 284, Slate Hill.

Wurtsboro: 1 p.m. The American Legion Post 1266 and the Edward M. Maier Memorial VFW Post 4947 will host the 2024 Memorial Day parade.
