Many funeral homes publish obituaries on their websites. These can usually be located with a Google search on the person's name. Local genealogical and historical societies, public libraries, and some newspaper publishers maintain clipping files of obituaries.
Death certificates become public records after 50 years. Then any person may obtain an uncertified copy of the death certificate, upon submission of application form and fees.
Answer: Death certificates are filed at the Health Department in the county where the death occurred. Certified copies may be obtained by immediate family, a legal representative or legal guardian. Contact the Health Department for a fee schedule.
