KOTOV 7-6(5) 6-4 1-6 7-6(5) WAWRINKA

Twelve games weren't enough to decide a wild fourth set that included four breaks, so Pavel Kotov and Stan Wawrinka went to another tiebreak.

Kotov got the first mini-break to go ahead 5-4. He made it 6-4 with his next serve, but Wawrinka was able to save match point with a mini-break of his own to get back on serve. With the 2015 French Open champion serving to stay in the match, he hit his second shot long and that was that.

The crowd inside Lenglen had been going wild for Wawrinka throughout the third and fourth sets, and gave him a warm ovation as he left the court. The 39-year-old appeared quite emotional as he did so, unsure whether he'll play at Roland Garros again.

Kotov advances to the third round, where he'll face a very challenging matchup against Jannik Sinner (2).

Tomorrow's matches on the outer courts feature Casper Ruud (7), Grigor Dimitrov (10), Alex de Minaur (11), Taylor Fritz (12), Holger Rune (13) and Tommy Paul (14) all in action on the men's side, and Zheng Qinwen (7), Jelena Ostapenko (9), Saria Kasatkina (10), Danielle Collins (11), Jasmine Paolini (12) and Victoria Azarenka (19) playing on the women's side.

The first doubles matches of the 2024 French Open will also finally get going in earnest.

None of this is set in stone though, as tomorrow's weather forecast calls for more rain during most of the daytime...

Stan Wawrinka and Pavel Kotov have been on an absolute rollercoaster in this match:

• Kotov won the first two sets
• Wawrinka bounced back to win the third
• Wawrinka went up a break in the fourth set
• Kotov rallied to get back to level terms, then went up a break himself
• Wawrinka immediately broke him back to tie the fourth set at 4-4, earning a big ovation from the fans still inside Court Suzanne-Lenglen

The schedule for tomorrow is out, and it's a busy one as Roland Garros looks to make up for the matches that were suspended today.

The day session at Court Philippe-Chatrier features Moyuka Uchijima vs Aryna Sabalenka (2), Elina Svitolina (15) vs Diane Parry, and Novak Djokovic (1) vs Roberto Carballes Baena. The night session sees French favorite Gael Monfils take on Lorenzo Musetti (30).

Court Suzanne-Lenglen features Miomir Kecmanovic vs Daniil Medvedev (5), Arantxa Rus vs Elena Rybakina (4), Alexander Zverev (4) vs David Goffin, and Madison Keys (14) vs Mayar Sherif.

GASQUET 4-6 2-6 4-6 SINNER

Jannik Sinner (2) has advanced to the third round with a straight-sets victory over France's Richard Gasquet. The Frenchman put up a fight in the third set, finally breaking Sinner's serve for the first time in the match, but it wasn't enough to stop the 2024 Australian Open champion from moving on.

The Italian will face the winner of today's last match, Pavel Kotov vs Stan Wawrinka...

With play on the outer courts canceled for the rest of today, here's a look at the scorelines of matches that were suspended midway and will resume tomorrow.

After losing the first two sets Richard Gasquet was down a break in the third, but he has just broken Jannik Sinner for the first time today to get back on level terms 3-3. That's energized the crowd at Court Philippe-Chatrier, who are making noise for the Frenchman.

Meanwhile, Stan Wawrinka also trails by two sets but is dominating the third, up 5-1.

GASQUET 4-6 2-6 0-1* SINNER

After opening the second set with an immediate break of Richard Gasquet's serve, Jannik Sinner (2) added another break for good measure along the way to take the second set in dominant fashion. The 2024 Australian Open champion needed only two break points to get those two breaks in the second set.

And now Sinner has opened the third set in precisely the same manner, breaking the Frenchman's serve. This match appears to be headed towards a quick conclusion.

In the first 19 games of this match, there were zero breaks of serve. In the next three games, there were three.

With Kotov leading the second set 4-3, he broke Wawrinka's serve without dropping a single point. The former French Open champion battled back to undo the break in the next game, but Kotov immediately returned the favor to take a two-set lead.

GASQUET 4-6 0-2 SINNER

Richard Gasquet is cruising along in the first set holding his own against Jannik Sinner (2) until the set hits 3-3, when Sinner pounces upon the first opportunity to break his serve. With Sinner serving the next game, Gasquet has two break points to get back on level terms but fails to convert either, going on to lose the set 6-4.

Sinner then tightens his grip on the match by opening the second set with an immediate break and consolidation.

KOTOV 7-6(5) WAWRINKA

After a first set that featured no breaks of serve by either player, Pavel Kotov has won the tiebreak 7-5 to strike the first blow against the 2015 French Open champion Stan Wawrinka.

Our last two matches of the day have gotten going.

Richard Gasquet has just begun serving the first game against Jannik Sinner (2) on Court Philippe-Chatrier.

Meanwhile over on Court Suzanne-Lenglen, Stan Wawrinka and Pavel Kotov are on serve 4-4 in the first set.

Naomi Osaka was pretty upbeat in her press conference. She says she cried when she got off the court but having had a bit of time to digest it, she doesn't want to be hard on herself.

She also says that a year ago she was pregnant, watching Swiatek win the French Open. So she has come a pretty long way.

Oh my word. What looked like a classic, turned into a formality, into a classic and a formality and back into a classic — until it became a nerve-jangler.

In the end, the only remaining test of Naomi Osaka at the back-end of the third set was precisely the test she failed to overcome: executing the fearless game that had taken her to the brink exactly when the fear struck.

As soon as she broke for 5-4, still having to serve and not lose, Iga Swiatek realized that she could let Osaka feel the pressure instead of having to apply too much of it herself.

Here we are. Iga Swiatek (1) made a point of appealing to the French Open crowds to be silent during points, following her win over Naomi Osaka. She began by saying: “One thing”...

💬 “I know we are playing basically for you, and we are also earning money because of you. But sometimes when you scream something during the rally or right during the return, it’s really really hard to focus.

“I usually don’t bring this up because I want to be this kind of player that is really in the zone. But guys, this is serious for us. We’re fighting our whole lives to be better and better.

“The stakes are big, there’s a lot of money here to win. Losing a few points can change a lot. If you can support us before the rallies, but not during, that’d be really really amazing.”

With Swiatek-Osaka and Gauff-Zidansek in the books, we've got two matches left today.

France's Richard Gasquet vs Jannik Sinner (2) will get going on Court Philippe-Chatrier soon, while Pavel Kotov vs Stan Wawrinka has just got going on Court Suzanne-Lenglen.

As for Naomi Osaka, that defeat means she misses out on what would have been her first top-10 win since January 2020.

But the good news is that she looks like that first big win won't be far away if she builds on that effort tonight.

Lot of records were on the line there for Iga Swiatek (1), and she fended them off as well as Naomi Osaka. Swiatek is now unbeaten in 16 matches at Roland Garros and hasn’t lost in 17 in the first three rounds of the French Open.

Immediately after the win, Swiatek said:

💬 “For sure this was really intense, much more for a second round match than I expected. We played amazing tennis, sometimes risking a lot. (Osaka) played really great tennis and maybe she’ll be a clay court specialist in a while! It’s so great to see her back and playing well.”

Swiatek then goes on to ask the crowd not to get involved and noisy on serves and big shots, while also trying to keep the French crowd on side in future. We’ll have those quotes for you in full shortly.

So does that mean that Iga Swiatek is beatable after all, or that she is even more of a sure thing to win this title again?

What a match. And what brilliant news that Naomi Osaka is playing at this level again.
