- ID photo (if current photo is more than 9 years old or taken before your 21st birthday).
- MA driver license number.
- Social Security number (SSN).
- $50 for Class D driver’s license renewal fee.
What You’ll Need to Do to Renew your Massachusetts Driver License in Person
- Completed Driver’s License, Learner’s Permit or ID Card Application (Form LIC100)
- Proof of your U.S. citizenship or lawful presence/date of birth: Certified copy of a U.S. birth certificate; U.S. passport or passport card; OR Certificate of Citizenship (Form N-560 or N-561).
- Proof of your MA residency.
- Proof of your Social Security number (Social Security card; OR W-2 form)
- $50 for Class D driver’s license renewal fee
Here are Massachusetts driver's license renewal exceptions to note:
- You cannot renew your driver’s license online if you (Completed your previous driver’s license renewal online, Have renewed your driver’s license online any time within the past 10 years, Do not have a Social Security number, Need to change your name, Over age 75, Requesting your first REAL ID driver’s license, Have a REAL ID driver’s license marked “limited term”).
- Do you have unpaid parking tickets, E-Z Pass violations, excise taxes, RMV fees, or child support payments? You will need to pay these first before you can renew your driver’s license.
- Has your driver’s license been lost, damaged, or stolen? You can still renew it online (provided you know your driver’s license number) or in person at the RMV.
- Has your driver’s license been expired for more than one year? Then you will need to apply for a new driver’s license.
