The Sniffer is the winner of the Minecraft Live 2022 Mob Community Vote, and is currently in Java Snapshots And bedrock experiments
Sniffer is an ancient passive animal that digs ancient seeds out of the ground and loves to sniff.
Sniffers can be found when their egg is dug up with a brush in ocean ruins. Sniffers wander aimlessly, avoiding hazards and obstacles. Occasionally smell their surroundings and track seeds by pressing their nose to the ground and when they find a seed, they drop to the ground and use their noses to dig the ground until they get a torchflower seeds.
Not much is known about The Sniffer at this point, but it has been described by the team at Mojang as an "ancient mob", long considered extinct, that you'll need to revive by finding their Eggs underground/underwater. They are a species of fictional Dinosaur.
Once hatched, the Sniffer will sniff the ground, and seek out plants and seeds, digging them up for you to collect. The developers have even suggested that the Sniffer could help discover brand new Plants, meaning this Mob's addition to the game will likely bring with it even more stuff to discover!
The Sniffer beat out the Rascal and the Tuff Golem as the Mob that most players wanted to be added to the game, accumulating over 55% of the overall vote!
