What is the best rune item to Smith for money? ›

The most valuable item to smith currently is rune 2h sword(update), with a value of 37,982. It is possible to increase profit by using high alchemy on the smithed rune items.

As a rune bar is currently worth 2,985 coins, each bar represents a profit of 670 coins. Smelting rune bars at the Blast Furnace reduces the cost per bar to 1,867 coins, a profit of 1,118 coins. Using Superheat Item to smelt, along with a staff of fire represents a profit of 265 coins.

Usually, the best things to smith are iron knives, dart tips and platebodies, depending on whether the player wants fast experience or profit.

The Blast Furnace provides a great opportunity for players to reap great profits by producing a large volume of runite bars (worth 12,368 each), which are coveted by high-level smiths. Depending on your level of activity, you can produce between 1,500 and 1,600 runite bars in an hour.

Smelting gold bars at the Blast Furnace becomes the fastest viable training method at level 40. This method costs money, and it can be fairly expensive depending on the Grand Exchange prices.

Creating the base armour pieces and upgrading them to + 5 is a requirement to make masterwork equipment, and is a requirement for the completionist cape. A total of 384 elder rune bars is required to fully upgrade a complete set of elder rune armour, or 448 if also upgrading the shield.

For free-to-play, apart from smelting, Bryophyta is the only way of obtaining runite bars. Three of them can be obtained occasionally when opening the crystal chest.
