I recently moved back into the area, and I joined Mona Shores as a sophom*ore. Initially, I was scared of facing the new environment, but my fears were quickly forgotten. My first year as a student has been an amazing one. After transferring from a rigorous and backbreaking school, MSHS has become my best friend. I have found comfort not just in true friendships, but also in the ever-welcoming school staff. The hands-on opportunities I have received since enrollment have been the best part of my year. I have joined clubs, furthered my career aspects, and volunteered my time to a number of brilliant causes. But with every new school comes new challenges, and I would say the lesser part of my year has been a result of the required classes I have had to take. Certain courses, though interesting, haven’t been particularly helpful for me personally and don’t seem necessary. This is something I would like to see change. Yet, overall, it is no question that Mona Shores is the school for me!

I loved my experience at Mona Shores High School. As someone academically inclined, I appreciated the immense variety of AP classes provided at Shores and the amazing teachers teaching them. Some staff are better than others, which is to be expected. The worst part of my academic experience was taking AP Physics I last year. I felt my teacher did not do a good job of teaching the course material in a way my classmates and I could understand, which was disappointing. As an AP Research student, I would have appreciated it if they had better database and note-taking resources available for their students. Sports at Shores are a big point of pride for students and staff. I met my best friends through running track and appreciate how caring the coaches are. The sports facilities are new and well-maintained, yet they do not have an aquatic center available for their co-op swim teams. I appreciate the principal's involvement in the sporting events, which helps encourage school spirit.

Mona Shores has brought the spotlight to their fine arts program with running America's Tallest Singing Christmas Tree and having all branches of fine arts receive either a Division I or II rating at Solo & Ensemble Festivals. Behind the scenes the administration works diligently to provide a healthy environment. However, there are some cases where the students themselves bring down the standing of the school because of a lack of communication. Overall I would like to see more active parents and more communication with students.
