Biography[]
Before a robbery in Blackwater goes horribly wrong, he forces the gang to hide in Colter in the Western Grizzlies, although not soon after traveling into the state of New Hanover, Micah was caught by the law for murder and taken to jail in Strawberry. He is broken out days later by Arthur Morgan. After a botched robbery in Saint-Denis, Micah, along with Dutch, Arthur, Bill Williamson, and Javier Escuella are washed ashore on the island of Guarma before eventually making their way back to the United States. Eventually, he ends up working as a mole for Andrew Milton and the Pinkerton Detective Agency (coupled with Dutch's own instability) which causes the Van der Linde gang to fall apart. After Arthur and John Marston confront him at the camp, a standoff ensues, resulting in Micah shooting Susan Grimshaw dead. Pinkerton agents discover the gang's location, forcing them all to flee. Arthur and John head to a nearby mountain, leaving Arthur to fight off agents until Micah soon reappears to kill him. A brawl then commences between the pair which ultimately ends with Arthur's death.
8 years later, former Van der Linde gang member Sadie Adler discovers Micah was hiding on Mount Hagen. Wishing to avenge Arthur, John and Charles Smith travel with her to hunt him down. However, after finding Micah, he manages to take Sadie hostage and reveals he has partnered up with Dutch. John makes one last attempt to reach out to Dutch during a brief standoff, which results in Dutch shooting Micah and allowing John to gun him down which lead him to his death.
What Make Him a Hate Sink?[]
- When he was seventeen years old, he and his father worked together to murder two people by slitting their throats and hanging them on the rafters, proving that he was always evil even at a young age.
- Even before his betrayal, Micah was already an unpleasant bastard to be with. For example:
- He constantly teases and intimidates the other members of the gang for his amusem*nt and even holds racist and sexist views against all the members.
- Killing half the town of Strawberry just to get their weapons back.
- When Dutch starts to lose his mind, Micah begins to manipulate him into plans that are detrimental to the gang.
- When Arthur begins to weaken from his Tuberculosis, Micah taunts him and calls him "Black Lung".
- In the end, it is revealed that Micah had betrayed the gang, by selling information to the Pinkertons about their movements. When Arthur finally discovers the truth, it is too late.
- He brutally beats Arthur, weakened and on the verge of death from his Tuberculosis.
- He murders, or at least tries to murder Arthur. If he kills him, he afterwards laughs and spits on his corpse.
- He raped Jenny and complains that none of the women would have sex with him even with a gun pointed at their head, but then goes on to brag about how he would have raped Jenny.
- 8 years after Arthur's death, Micah had become increasingly unhinged, killing even a young girl before threatening to go after Abigail and Jack after killing John.
- Even in death, Micah would end up being responsible for the death of John, as well as the rest of the gang, since his death was what led Edgar Ross to discover John's whereabouts, thus initiating the events of the first game.
- While some members of the gang have sympathetic or likable qualities, Micah has no cool traits whatsoever, enjoys killing and loves making people suffer, and only cares about himself.
Trivia[]
- To help drive the point of Micah being a Hate Sink home, there was even a subreddit solely dedicated to hating on him called "r/F***Micah", which currently has been banned for being unmoderated.
- Micah is widely regarded as the single most hated Rockstar villain out there.
- Micah is so hated that even his voice actor, Peter Blomquist voiced his contempt for him and was shocked when Micah managed to kill Arthur, and thanked a fan when he mentioned to him that Micah was a villain who was really punchable.
- It is possible that Micah has a sense of honor, as he will leave Arthur to die instead of killing him if Arthur has high honor, while murdering Arthur in cold blood if the player has low honor. However, it's highly unlikely Micah actually has an honorable side, meaning this was likely just a sad*stic blow to Arthur's pride than anything else. However, if it is confirmed he spared Arthur out of respect or remorse, then Micah would no longer be Pure Evil or a Hate Sink. Though given his overall, brutal nature, there's no indication that he shows any and all mercy so none of these supposed claims disqualify his status. Micah probably spared Arthur to avoid repercussions, however, John Marston, Sadie Adler and Charles Smith ended up killing him anyway.
- The player will not lose honor when antagonizing Micah in the Van de Linde gang camp, which further cements his Hate Sink status.
