More than 150 Lane Bryant stores, including 52 of the plus-size brand's outlet stores, are expected to permanently close as part ofparent companyAscena Retail Group's bankruptcy.
New Jersey-based Ascena, which also operates the Justice tween brand, Ann Taylor Loft, Catherines,Lou & Grey and Cacique, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Thursday with plans to shutter a "significant number" of thecompany's 2,800 stores, according to court documents.
Lane Bryant has 688 specialty retail and outlet stores, documents show, and had approximately $969 million in sales for the 2019 fiscal year.
Catherines, which also is a plus-size retailer, will close all of its 320 stores but is expected to continue to operate as an online store under new ownership, Ascena said in a news release Thursday.

SB360 Capital Partners will manage the going-out-of-business liquidation sales, court records show.SB360 has managed liquidation sales for more than 50 years and isan affiliate of theSchottenstein family, which also owns DSW Inc. and American Eagle Outfitters.
The company managed Charlotte Russe's 2019 liquidation and is currently handling Modell's Sporting Goods' closing sales.

Like other apparel retailers with a heavy commitment to shopping malls, Ascena was grappling with declining foot traffic long before the coronavirus pandemic, which has led to an increase of retailers filing for bankruptcy.
In 2019, Ascena closed its nearly 650 Dressbarn stores, which now operate as an online-only business under new ownership.
