Home game against Hartlepool been chosen as a football for a fiver match.

I understand why the club does this but personally I hate these matches. You always get groups of day trippers turning up 5 mins after kick off, faffing about trying to find seats. They aren’t really interested in the game so spend most of the time waffling on about nonsense. They leave for beers 10 mins before halftime with more seat and back 10 minutes after the second half has begun, with more seat faffing.

There’s 3 distinct groups:

1. Family day trippers with kids who aren’t remotely interested in League 2 football, or even football at all in some cases. They sit in the non-family section and are indignant that a football match isn’t the most appropriate place for a 6 year old

2. Gentrified hipsters. Groups of young professionals who have moved to Leyton as it is an upcoming area. Usually a mixture of blokes and girls. They’d probably rather be at the ruggers but this is a jolly fun day out. Plus they can just start banging on about their tedious jobs or gossip about where Henrietta buys her ricotta.

3. Lads lads lads. Spurs or West Ham fans on a cheap afternoon out. Groups of 4-5 lads. Stone Island clobber. Already p*ssed up before kick off. Loud and obnoxious. More interested in getting the rounds in than the game itself. Leave 15 mins before the end to beat the rush to the pub.

Wasn’t the 3-1 against Bromley a fiver game? Couple of great goals from McAnuff & Koroma that day?

At least people are paying £5 these days, prior to that a significant proportion of the crowd were coming in with complimentary tickets. Self included.

FWIW I like the £5 games, some friends who aren’t Os fans will come along with me. Also won’t be many Spurs fans as they are at home on TV game at 5:30pm that day.

I’ve had a season ticket since T and T took over. Before that it was pay on the day. It wasn’t unknown for people to be outside selling free complimentary tickets at half the entrance fee. Naughty.

I used to get 4 from Wanstead Guardian or Score Centre depending on circ*mstances and just leave extras in the pub or by the turnstiles. Rare I ever used all 4. I suspect half the people in the east stand were there on complimentary tickets most Saturdays.

If they get them as part of a legitimate process, like the local paper, that’s fair enough. Perks ( I think ). 😂

But I don’t like the idea of people trying to sell them to paying customers like me. That’s robbing cash from the club for personal profit.

I was always against the notion of giving away tickets for nothing as it
devalues us as a club and seems like we are begging people to come in. They
won't come back if they have to pay anyway.

I guess the club believes otherwise but I do wonder how many they hope will get the bug and come back regularly and how would they know?

As you say I am sure they have done their homework on this and £5 is better than a freebie. If half of them
buy a beer and a hotdog or even buy a programme I suppose it all adds up. As for coming again at normal prices lets
hope a few do.
