Can you retract a bid on HiBid? ›

Once you place a bid on our Site, it may not be retracted.

*Hibid assigns a reputation score to every bidder who registers on its platform. A new bidder has a score of zero. This score can increase up to a score of 100, based on the bidder's activity of bidding and paying for items won in any auction run through the Hibid platform.

If you log into your account and see "You May Have Won" this actually means YOU WON. If you see "Outbid" this means you lost. This is how our system works so please understand that "YOU MAY HAVE WON" means you indeed won.

HiBid is the premier auction platform for selling a huge variety of items. Everything from real estate, cars, and fine jewelry to collectibles, sports memorabilia, and personal property is open for bidding on HiBid.com at any given time.

In the end, it is up to the Organization running the auction to decide whether to honor the request. If the winning bidder would like to back out after the close of the auction, you can offer the item to the next highest bidder, or close the item as Not Sold.

If the listing ends in under 12 hours, you can retract your most recent bid, but only if it's been less than an hour since you placed it. If you are outside that time frame, your best bet is to communicate directly with the seller and persuade them to cancel your bid at their end.

You're liable for the deposit on auction day and the rest of the purchase price, plus fees, by the completion deadline (typically 28 days after the auction). If you can't pay the deposit, you may face legal consequences. The auction house and seller can demand that you pay the amount specified in your contract.

You are obliged to complete the purchase

When you click Buy It Now or win an auction, you have entered a legal contract to buy the item. That means you must pay the cost of the item and any delivery or other charges outlined in the listing.

Buyers must pay for the items they purchase on eBay within 4 calendar days. If the buyer doesn't pay within this timeframe, the seller can cancel the order and an unpaid cancellation will be recorded on the buyer's account.

There are two types of bidders – real and fake. Those fake bidders are those who try and register to bid but have no real intentions of bidding to win or pay for items after the auction.

Shill bidding is intentionally fake bidding by a seller on his/her own auction to inflate the final price. This can be accomplished either by the seller himself/herself or by someone colluding with the seller to place fake bids on his/her behalf.

In eBay jargon, bidders retract and sellers cancel. A seller can cancel any bid at any time before the auction ends. A bidder can retract their bid if the auction has more than 12 hour left. During the final 2 hour, a bid can be retracted only within an hour after being placed.

Keep in mind that you can't always retract a bid once it's made –if you're not able to retract your bid, you can also try contacting the seller to see if they'll cancel your bid for you.

Legality of Withdrawing a Bid

The ability to withdraw a bid is contingent on the regulations governing the tendering process. The Public Contracts Regulations 2015 stipulate that a withdrawal can occur before the contract award without penalty in most cases, provided the terms and conditions allow for such action.

23.2. A Bidder may, through a Letter of Withdrawal, withdraw its bid after it has been submitted, for valid and justifiable reason; provided that the Letter of Withdrawal is received by the Procuring Entity prior to the deadline prescribed for submission and receipt of bids.
