Dragons Dogma 2 Magick Archer Build Guide (2024)

In this Dragon’s Dogma 2 Magick Archer Build Guide, we’ll be talking about the advanced vocation, Magick Archer. We’ll be talking about how to play it, unlocking it, which spells to use, and what its role and playstyle is. This Guide will contain all the information you will need to play as a Magick Archer Build in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Unlocking the Magick Archer Vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2

To unlock the Magick Archer vocation, you will need to head to Windwalker’s Home, and pass through Checkpoint Rest Town. You will have to complete the quest “Put A Spring In Thy Step” to unlock the vocation. This will take a while, so you have the option to go straight to it or naturally unlock it as you progress through the game. If you play the game naturally, it will really take a while to get to this point, so it will be up to you.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 Magick Archer Build – A Magick Archer’s Role

With a Magick Archer, you can go for two ways of playstyle. You can either go as a pure DPS character, or you can have support skills to help your party. By being a vocation that is in between a DPS and support role, you can remove a mage in your party if you want to. However, I wouldn’t recommend that as mages are good for removing status ailments in your party, which is something Magick Archers cannot do.

A good pawn pairing for a Magick Archer will be a fighter, even if you choose any of the playstyles that a Magick Archer would offer. If you’re a pure DPS or a hybrid support character, you will want to have a tank in your party, as they will keep the enemy aggro away from you.

Basics of a Magick Archer in Dragon’s Dogma 2

Magick Archers Builds are a bit different from Archer Builds in Dragon’s Dogma 2. They do have similarities, such as using the default attack button to quickly attack enemies or use Steady Shot to aim on the enemy. However, Magick Archers are going to aim more than an archer as they have skills that could either aim a single-target enemy or a group. Magick Archers will have two skills, Rivet Shot which targets a single enemy, and Pinpoint Volley which hits multiple targets.

Rivet Shot takes longer than Pinpoint Volley to charge up. I would recommend you use Pinpoint Volley for targetting big enemies that are far away from you, as not only does it charge faster, but it also targets all the parts of the enemy that it can hit.

Debilitations or status ailments play a big role in playing as a Magick Archer because you have a lot of skills that can give these effects to monsters. Magick Archers will gain a passive that will temporarily change their basic attack’s damage type to the damage type of the last skill used. Keep this in mind when you know the weakness of the enemy you’re fighting against.

Stamina Management as a Magick Archer

Magick Archer Builds in Dragon’s Dogma 2 won’t have a problem with stamina management, just like archers as stated in the archer guide. You’ll almost always be using regular attacks, which does not consume stamina. Sometimes, you’ll be using skills that consume stamina, but firing off a basic attack will be faster. In combat, you’ll mostly be using your stamina for dodging attacks or sprinting away from enemies.

Make sure that your equipment weight is light, so that you’ll be able to recover stamina faster. You should also use consumables that replenish stamina if you need it in certain situations.

Frosthunter Bolt is a good if you want to play like an ice archer, inflicting ice status ailments such as frostbite on enemies. If you like the frost effect, this is a skill you want to keep using.

Ricochet Seeker | Ricochet Hunter

Ricochet Hunter deals lightning damage. It is very situational, as it only works well inside tight spaces as the arrows would ricochet off of walls and ceilings. You can charge this skill up to increase the number of ricochets that the skill will do. It can deal a lot of damage, but only if you use it in tight spaces.

Dragons Dogma 2 Magick Archer Build Guide (7)

Flamefang Arrow | Blazefang Arrow

Flamefang Arrow is a skill wherein you will guide the arrow by ‘driving’ it to its destination, making it explode when it reaches the destination. It deals fire damage when it explodes. It’s not necessarily a skill to have, but it is fun to use.

Hailstone Bolt | Arctic Bolt

Hailstone Bolt is a skill that flings a block of ice towards an enemy. The longer you charge it, the bigger the block of ice will be. It has a decent amount of knockdown power to it, so it can be used to complement your party if you have a warrior as a pawn.

Dragons Dogma 2 Magick Archer Build Guide (9)

Martyr’s Bolt

Martyr’s Bolt is immediately unlocked once you get the Magick Archer vocation. This skill deals a lot of damage, but it will reduce your maximum health significantly. When you charge up the skill, not only does it increase the damage it will deal towards your enemies, it also increases the health reduction you will receive. This is not a skill you would use regularly, as you’ll basically be resting after once you use this skill.

Remedy Arrow | Recovery Arrow

Vimtaking Arrow | Lifetaking Arrow

Lifetaking Arrow is a skill that steals health from enemies and gives it to your pawns. You can hit multiple enemies with this, which will heal your pawns for a significant amount. It is a very situational skill to use, as it cannot revive your pawns unlike Recovery Arrow.

Augments and Equipment for Magick Archer in DD2

For Augments, you’re going to be looking for damage boosts, magic stats, and status effect buildup. Asperity and Sagacity will be good augments to have, as these kinds of boosts are what you’re looking for.

As for the equipment, it’ll depend on your progress in the game as you’ll always find bows that you’ll find suitable for your level. I’m currently using an ice bow which freezes enemies, so they can’t hit me or my party. This is pretty helpful for my party, so I would prefer using this bow compared to other high damage bow I find. You’ll find a better bow eventually, as you’ll be upgrading your equipment constantly. For rings, you want to increase your character’s strength and magic. You’ll find a ring which increases bow attacks from close range, it’ll be a good ring for a while.
