Dragon's Dogma: 10 Best Weapons (2024)

If you're planning on taking down the powerful beasts of Dragon's Dogma, you're going to need a weapon. Thankfully, the game boasts more weapons than you can shake a stick at, from rusted swords to named staves like Volant White. Then again, this means it can be equally tough to decide which weapon you want to use.

10 Best Open-World Games With Hack-And-Slash Combat

Sometimes, you just want to swing a weapon around and have a blast. Here are the best open-world hack and slash games.

Fortunately, these weapons go beyond conventional swords and axes. You can find most of them in the Dark Arisen expansion, but since this comes included in most modern purchases of the game, they’ll be accessible to most. Go forth, Arisen!

Updated November 8, 2023 by Quinton O'Connor: We've timed this refresh cleverly, haven't we? It's all about the upcoming Dragon's Dogma 2, of course. We've gone back and rewritten a few things, so hopefully you'll enjoy the results!

10 Caged Fury

A Powerful Staff With A Damage Multiplier

Dragon's Dogma: 10 Best Weapons (2)

Available in both Dark Arisen and the core game with the Debilitator Weapon Pack, Caged Fury is unique among archistaves. While its max magick power is only 522, Caged Fury has an interesting mechanic with devastating possibilities: the more you hit with your spells, the more the staff gets charged. The more the staff gets charged, the higher a power multiplier gets, and at ten hits, will double both the staff's magick power and your base magick.

If your base magick is high enough, and you get the right number of hits, this can be the most powerful archistaff in the game. The only downside is that a single hit will eliminate the power multiplier, and, if you're at ten hits, take your stamina down to zero. It's a small price to pay to get off such powerful spells, but that power can quickly go awry.

9 Darkening Storm

Most Powerful Physical Shortbow

Dragon's Dogma: 10 Best Weapons (3)

Striders and Assassins are the quick, adaptable types. It makes sense, then, that they are the only two classes to use the lightning-fast shortbows, and if you play either class, you can't go wrong with Darkening Storm. The most powerful physically-based shortbow in the game, it has a full 1305 strength when fully upgraded, and can easily make a pincushion out of your enemies.

Add in the finesse of a Strider or the pure force of the Assassin, and you get one of the most deadly weapons in the game. Ride the lightning!

8 Cursed Light

Most Powerful Holy Enchanted Sword

Dragon's Dogma: 10 Best Weapons (4)

The holy elemental affinity in Dragon's Dogma is one of the most useful, and that's exactly what Cursed Light dishes out. With 974 physical power and 708 magick, it is also the most powerful enchanted sword in the game. You'll need to purify a level 2 Bitterblack weapon to do so, but the cost is worth the effort.

13 Underrated Open-World Games

While the Skyrims and GTAs of the world tend to hog the limelight, there are plenty of underrated open-world games that deserve more love.

Holy damage is useful throughout the game, but it becomes even more important to have in the Bitterblack Isles, where the undead run rampant. What it lacks in raw force it makes up for in the ability to take down liches and skeletons with ease.

7 Sapfire Daggers

Physical And Fire Damage Versatality

Dragon's Dogma: 10 Best Weapons (6)

While they don't deal as much raw damage as the level 3 Bitterblack-derived daggers, the Sapfire Daggers can deal both physical and fire damage, which makes them far more versatile. It is also the only weapon in the game that can inflict lowered defense on an enemy, which means that they will take 30 percent more physical damage.

On your own, this might not seem like the best choice, since these daggers deal more fire damage than physical, but if you're in a party that deals a lot of physical damage, it will help them shred through bosses. Not every weapon is about the amount of damage you can dish out. Sometimes it's about the skill.

6 Virge Of Madness

Most Powerful Mace

Dragon's Dogma: 10 Best Weapons (7)

Another weapon courtesy of a purified level 3 Bitterblack weapon, this hefty mace answers the time-honored question of what happens when you hit someone on the head with a huge, spiky piece of metal. This handy hunk of iron can certainly dish it out, too. With 2000 physical power when fully upgraded, it's by far the most damaging mace in the game.

Only Magick Knights can use the Virge of Madness, which makes it kind of a niche weapon. But, if you like to mix your maces and your magicks, there's no better choice.

5 Revenant Wail

Best Non-Enchanted Longbow

Dragon's Dogma: 10 Best Weapons (8)

The Revenant Wail's item description states that the bow howls as it is drawn, but it's more probable that you'll hear your enemies wailing if you equip this longbow. With 1366 physical power, it's far and away the best non-enchanted longbow in the game.

And, while other physical weapons on this list can outpace it in terms of raw, single hits, in the hands of a skilled Ranger, it can deal some devastating damage. Sure, a fighter might crush someone with his hammer, but if you can shoot ten arrows out of your bow in a matter of seconds, you'll take down your enemy before they even have time to blink.

4 Blackwing Bow

Best Magick Bow

Dragon's Dogma: 10 Best Weapons (9)

Magick Archers are a different breed. Equal parts Strider and Mage, they fire debilitating magic through their bows that can slip past the defenses of an armored enemy. They also have access to special Magick bows, and the Blackwing Bow is the best of the best.

When fully upgraded in Dark Arisen, the Blackwing Bow has upward of 1522 magic power. That may not seem like a lot when compared to other endgame weapons, but in the hands of a skilled Magick archer, it will bring the shadow of death to almost any enemy.

3 Devil's Nail

A Giant Hammer With Unmatched Raw Power

Dragon's Dogma: 10 Best Weapons (10)

By the numbers, the Devil's Nail does the most physical damage of any weapon in the game, with a whopping 2100 strength when fully upgraded. It also has the highest stagger/ knockdown power in the game, which makes sense, since it's a giant hammer of such size that puts Ghiza's Wheel to shame.

The only reason that this weapon isn't higher on the list is because of its sheer size and weight. Sure, it looks like the toe of a colossal devil attached to a pole, but it's very slow to swing.

2 Sanguine Stalk

A Staff With Immense Magick Powered

Dragon's Dogma: 10 Best Weapons (11)

Are you more refined than the hammer-wielding rabble? Do you like to stay behind, and pelt your enemies with spells? Then the Sanguine Stalk is the weapon for you. While it's only available for Sorcerers, and only in Dark Arisen, the Sanguine Stalk has the highest Magick power of any weapon in the game, up to 1730 when fully upgraded. It also has a fairly decent physical attack, great for when you find yourself in a sticky situation.

Games Like Final Fantasy With Even Better Stories

No one can say RPG without thinking of a game in the Final Fantasy series. But what if other games had even deeper or more compelling stories?

Though there are other weapons with the potential to give you more magick power, the Sanguine Stalk is by far the most reliable. The Bitterblack isles are tough, but with this archistaff in hand, you'll be more than a match for anything it can throw at you.

1 Bitter End

Extremely Powerful While Remaining Light And Quick

Dragon's Dogma: 10 Best Weapons (13)

While the Bitter End doesn't do quite as much physical damage as the Devil's Nail, it does almost as much and makes up for the difference by being lighter and quicker. Like many of the other weapons on this list, it requires you to purify a level 3 Bitterblack weapon to get it, which means slogging your way through the Dark Arisen expansion. But, by the time that you get to the level 51 required to use it, it'll be worth it.

Bitter End has a full 2055 strength when fully upgraded, and raises the wielder's damage by 20% when at critical health. It'll make any Warrior into an unstoppable killing machine, even to the last.
