While the Emergency response has ended with the end of the National Public Health Emergency in May 2023, COVID continues to circulate and affect many in the community. Prevention, testing and treatment remain important in controlling the spread and severity of illness.
 | Vaccines will remain available. Access to COVID-19 vaccines will generally not be affected for now. The U.S. government is currently distributing freeCOVID-19 vaccinesfor all adults and children. To help keep communities safe from COVID-19, HHS remains committed to maximizing continued access to COVID-19 vaccines. |
 | COVID-19 at-home tests may not be covered by insurance. Insurance providers will no longer be required to waive costs or provide free COVID-19 tests. CDC’sNo Cost COVID-19 Testing Locatorcan help people find current community and pharmacy partners participating in theIncreasing Community Access to Testing (ICATT) program. |
 | Treatments will remain available. Medication to prevent severe COVID-19,such as Paxlovid, will remain available for free while supplies last. After that, the price will be determined by the medication manufacturer and your health insurance coverage. Check with your healthcare provider if you needearly treatment to prevent severe COVID-19. |
 | Reporting of COVID-19 Having data for this phase of COVID-19 provides understanding of what’s happening with the virus in Orange County and in the U.S. The information we receive will evolve in the future, but will still allow public health officials at the County and State level, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and members of the public to understand COVID-19 dynamics at the community level. |

Orange County COVID-19 Data
As of April 30, 2024, mandated COVID-19 hospitalization reporting to National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) was discontinued. The OC Health Care Agency (HCA) is suspending posting updates on COVID-19 hospitalizations at this time. The HCA has requested continued voluntary reporting of COVID-19 hospitalization data from County hospitals. Going forward, the HCA will monitor the completeness of the data submitted and will consider resumption of public reporting based on the quality of the data received.
