EAGLE BUTTE, S.D. (KSFY/Gray News) - A child was found deceased in Eagle Butte, South Dakota, and local law enforcement says it could be the result of a feral dog attack.
Ryman LeBeau, Chairman of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe said on Saturday, a deceased child was found near a bike with injuries that “may have contributed to his death.”
The incident is still being investigated by Cheyenne River Tribal Police, but LeBeau told KSFY there is a possibility the cause of death was a feral dog attack.
LeBeau said nothing will be determined until an autopsy is complete, but local Animal Control and other support programs patrolled and picked up loose animals over the weekend as a safety precaution.
If the animal has a collar, it will be held at the Wakpa Waste Animal Shelter for 72 hours.
The age and name of the child have not been released, but police say the child’s family has been notified.
