Dragon’s Dogma 2 contains 10 vocations in total, so it’s only natural to wonder which one is the best. The answer depends on your personal playstyle and preferences in combat, so we’ve listed our top three picks after spending plenty of time using all 10. Here are the three best vocations in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

We chose to exclude Warfarer here because, while fun, it limits the number of skills you can equip for each vocation, and doesn't allow the use of maister skills.

Mystic Spearhand

Mystic Spearhand is the best all-around vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2 because of several skills that come together to allow for great mobility, high attack, and impenetrable defense. The best Mystic Spearhand skills provide teleportation, close and long-range offense, and shields for the entire party.

Mystic Spearhand has one of the most useful unique abilities of any vocation, even before unlocking any of the more powerful skills. Redouted Bolt is a long-range projectile that you can fire at any time, and it causes smaller enemies to flinch and create offensive openings for yourself or a teammate.

When upgraded through Forbeding Bolt and Scatering Bolt, this projectile slows enemy movement and can even become an AoE. You can perform any other skill in your arsenal while charging the bolt, allowing for serious creativity on the fly in combat.

The Quik Fot Core Skill enhances the bolt even further by bringing teleportation into the mix. With Quik Fot, you can teleport directly to any enemy that gets hit by Forbeding Bolt or Scatering Bolt. This is where most of Mystic Speahand’s mobility comes from, and since the bolt stuns enemies, you can instantly follow up with your strongest attacks.

On the defensive side, Mystic Spearhand might have the best skill in the game next to the Formless Feint Thief skill. Mirour Vesture summons impenetrable shields for you and all nearby allies. No attack can harm you or anyone near you while the shield is active, so it’s the perfect party-wide defense when battling enemies like drakes that use large AoE spells.

The shield only lasts for a few seconds, but it can be recast immediately – as long as you have enough stamina available. The upgraded version, Mirrour Shelde, improves the range and duration of the shield, making it a must-have skill for all Mystic Spearhands.

The one downside to this class is the high stamina consumption, but that can be mitigated through augments like Endurance (Archer) and Zeal (Warfarer). With that said, you can combine the instant teleportation and unbreakable shield with any offensive skills you like to experience firsthand why Mystic Spearhand is one of the best vocations in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Sorcerer

When compared to other vocations, Sorcerers are the most devastating offensive threat by a wide margin. Their offensive spells are devastating, to say the least, and if we factor in the two maister skills, a Sorcerer can melt any enemy health bar in seconds.

The Sorcerer vocation doesn’t have a single team-oriented skill, but nearly every single spell available is an elemental AoE attack. Even their unique ability, Quickspell, is only used to cast those offensive moves even faster.

The standout spell in the default list is Hagol, which is, essentially, a magical blizzard that damages and freezes all foes caught inside its wide range. Some of the strongest enemies in the game are weak to Ice, like the drakes found throughout the map. Freezing a drake – or any other problematic monster – is one of the best tactics, from both an offensive and defensive perspective.

Sorcerers also have answers for elemental resistances and close-range combat, even though they’d rather stay out of melee range. Thundermine creates a ball of lightning that attacks all enemies who approach it. This means it works well as a defensive move depending on where you decide to place the mine. And Seism is an earth-shattering move that works on any enemy with elemental resistances.

Sorcerers jump up to another level in power once you complete The Sorcerer's Appraisal and Spellbound side quests to unlock the Meteoron and Maelstrom maister skills – the real reasons why this is one of the best classes in the game.

Meteoron calls meteors down from the sky to completely annihilate everything in a huge AoE. The meteoric impact is so ridiculous that you won’t be able to see anything but explosions on the screen. This skill kills small groups of enemies almost instantly, and shaves off huge chunks of health from larger monsters.

Maelstrom summons a giant tornado that swallows up anything in its path, sending small targets flying through the air to their death. The skill can’t pick up larger monsters, but it’ll still do serious damage when cast on top of them.

The Sorcerer vocation would still be top-tier even if you couldn’t cast Meteoron and Maelstrom, but once you use them yourself, you will understand why this is one of the best vocations in Dragon’s Dogma 2.

Magick Archer

The Magick Archer vocation is powerful in its own unique way because it has an answer for several situations on the battlefield. Magick Archers use unique arrows to apply negative status effects, exploit elemental weaknesses, and even heal or protect party members – all from a safe distance.

Magick Archer is a class that will make resent the four-skill limit. There are so many special arrows that all have wildly different effects, but we’re focusing on just a few here before mentioning the maister skill. Frostseeker Bolt, Sparkchain Stake, and Flamefang Arrow are all excellent offensive choices. Your skill list will likely change regularly with this class.

First off, the Magick Archer has a unique ability, Conversion, which allows you to choose how to aim the vocation’s offensive skills with two settings. On one setting, you can target multiple enemies or multiple body parts on a single creature, and on the other setting, you can shoot multiple arrows at a single target or body part for more focused damage.

Ice is always a good element to attack with, and Frostseeker Bolt fires multiple icy arrows that magically seek out targets to freeze them. Sparkchain Stake is a similar move, but with lightning. It fires stakes that can chain lightning together when fired near each other. The stakes can do serious damage when fired at multiple points on a single large enemy. And Flamefang Arrow feels like the Archer’s Explosive Arrow skill, so pick what you need for your situation.

If you want to be more of a support character, Magick Archer also has Remedy Arrow and Vimtaking Arrow for healing. The former does single-target healing and the latter saps health from enemies to heal your frontline party members. Mages are still the best healers in the game, but running a support Magick Archer could give you a bit of flexibility in team building,

Martyr’s Bolt is the Magick Archer maister skill, and it fires off a ton of arrows in the direction of your chosen targets. The skill does a wild amount of damage at the cost of your health bar. Your health bar will drain as you charge the attack, so only use this skill when you’re sure no attack will harm you while charging. The more health you choose to lose, the higher your damage output.

If you can safely charge Martyr’s Bolt for about four seconds, you’ll learn why the loss is worth it. Have healing items ready to go, or bring a pawn that can heal you as soon as the skill has fired. Thankfully, Martyr’s Bolt doesn’t affect your loss gauge and you can regain all that lost health.

You can’t go wrong picking any of these three vocations in Dragon’s Dogma 2, as Mystic Spearhand, Sorcerer, and Magick Archer are all powerful in their own individual ways.
